Moss said he and another former student who also claims Ritz abused him as a child went to authorities last year after discovering that Ritz went on to have a long teaching career in California after leaving District 65.But in a news release Friday, Lake County State's Attorney Michael Nerheim confirmed that the complaints of former students prompted the investigation."In those complaints, the students provided information regarding a number of incidents, dating from the late 1970s through the mid-1980s, that occurred in the presence of Mr. The release said that investigators interviewed about 50 people, from California to Florida, and "uncovered extensive records spanning back nearly 30 years."A spokesman for Nerheim said California authorities were handling Ritz's arrest, and it wasn't clear if he was yet in custody late Friday.Over the past five years, the TEA opened investigations into nearly 900 inappropriate relationships between teachers and students.Charles Ritz III, who authorities said returned from California to Illinois to surrender, was still in custody Monday afternoon on 0,000 bail, according to officials with the Lake County Sheriff's Office and the Lake County State's Attorney's Office.According to Lake County Circuit Court records, Ritz faces a misdemeanor charge of public indecency/lewd exposure.
